The Size and Design of Your Wax Seal
Custom Stamp carries two different sizes of die for custom wax seals:
Circular – 3/4 inch
Circular – 1 inch
Choosing the right size for your custom wax seal depends on the information you wish to be engraved. The 3/4″ is best for simplistic designs such as your initials and perhaps a border. For more ornate artwork we recommend the 1″, however it’s best to remember that complex designs won’t always work well when pressed into wax, therefore the simpler the design the better. When in doubt, our experts are happy to help you make the right choice. When it comes to the actual design for the seal our Designers are always happy to assist, or if you have existing artwork you can send your design to leong@commonseal.com.my.
How to Use your Wax Seal
Without a Glue Gun
You should get 8 – 10 seals per stick with 3/4″ seal or 5-6 seals per stick with 1″ seal. Cooling the brass head using a small ice pack will always get the best results:
You will need a way to heat the wax. We recommend a micro torch lighter, but you can also use a regular lighter, or candle. Remember to be careful not to burn yourself.
There are two methods to apply the wax. In either case hold the stick at an angle and heat the end of the wax.
Method 1: Wait until the wax softends and mush the end onto the paper into a circle. Be sure to remove any air bubbles. Make sure that the puddle of melted wax is larger than the seal.
Method 2: Let the wax melt until it drips onto the paper forming a pool. Again make sure that the puddle of melted wax is larger than the seal.
Once you have sufficient wax applied to the paper, press the seal into the wax. Let the seal sit until the wax cools (usually 10-15 seconds) before removing it..
With a Glue Gun
You should get 10 – 12 seals per stick with 3/4″ seal or 7-10 seals per stick with 1″ seal. Cooling the brass head using a small ice pack will always get the best results:
*Note: we recommend inserting two sticks at a time if the glue gun’s chamber is empty or close to empty.
Step 1:
Squeeze the wax into a circle and try to make it a little bigger than the impression of your seal.
Step 2:
Let the wax cool for couple of seconds and gently apply the seal.
Step 3:
Once stamped let the seal sit until the wax hardens (usually 10-15 seconds), then remove.
Letting the wax cool will ensure that the wax keeps its shape. If any wax get stuck to the brass seal, simply heat the wax to melt it away.
